What countries are in the Schengen Area?+
The Schengen Area includes 27 countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
What is ETIAS and when does it start?+
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is a pre-travel authorisation system for travellers who can currently visit Schengen countries visa-free. It is similar to the US ESTA or Canada's eTA. It is expected to launch in 2025-2026 and will cost €7 for a 3-year authorisation.
How long can I stay in the Schengen Area?+
On a standard Schengen tourist visa or visa-free entry, you can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This means you cannot simply leave and re-enter immediately to reset your 90 days — the 180-day window continues counting.
Do I need a separate visa for each Schengen country?+
No. A single Schengen visa allows you to travel freely across all 27 Schengen member states. You apply for the visa at the consulate of your main destination or the first country you will enter.
