Georgia vs Armenia: Caucasus eVisa Comparison (2026)

Georgia and Armenia are the Caucasus's two most visited countries — and they make an excellent combination on a single itinerary. Tbilisi's winding Old Town and Kazbegi's dramatic mountain church offer one kind of magic; Yerevan's Armenian cognac culture, ancient Geghard Monastery, and Lake Sevan offer another. Both have liberal visa policies — most Western travellers don't need a visa at all.

Kararımız

Georgia eVisa
Georgia edges ahead for first-time Caucasus visitors — the combination of Tbilisi's vibrant food and wine scene, Kazbegi's Gergeti Trinity Church, and the Vardzia cave monastery covers extraordinary ground in 7–10 days.

Armenia is the right choice for travellers who want deeper history — the world's oldest Christian country has ancient monasteries, the haunting Tsitsernakaberd genocide memorial, and a brandy culture tied to Ararat.

Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

Is there a direct border crossing between Georgia and Armenia?+
Yes — the Bagratashen/Sadakhlo crossing between Yerevan and Tbilisi is the main land border between the two countries. It is straightforward and takes around an hour to cross. Frequent marshrutka minibuses run between Tbilisi and Yerevan (approximately 5–6 hours). Note that crossing from Georgia to Armenia via Azerbaijan is not possible due to closed borders.
Which Caucasus country has better food?+
Both have exceptional food cultures. Georgia is internationally celebrated for its wine (one of the oldest wine cultures in the world), khachapuri (cheese bread), khinkali (dumplings), and rich walnut-based sauces. Armenia is known for its cognac and brandy, lavash flatbread, and grilled meats. Most travellers who visit both countries find themselves deeply impressed by the food in each.
