Most rejections come with a reason code or brief explanation. Common reasons include: ineligible nationality, incomplete application, passport validity issue, criminal record flag, prior immigration violation, or photo not meeting requirements. Identify the specific reason before taking any action.
Not all countries permit appeals. The USA ESTA does not — a denial means you must apply for a B-2 visa. Australia's eVisitor and ETA can sometimes be reviewed by contacting the Department of Home Affairs. India's eVisa can be appealed through the Indian Mission in your country. UK ETA rejections can be reviewed through UKVI.
If the rejection was due to unclear information, prepare supporting documents: bank statements, letter of employment, hotel bookings, return flight tickets, previous visa history, and any documents that establish your ties to your home country (property ownership, family commitments, employment contract). These help demonstrate you are a genuine temporary visitor.
For destinations that permit reapplication, correct the issue and reapply. For destinations where the eVisa route is closed (ESTA denial), apply for the full traditional visa at the relevant embassy or consulate. A full visa application allows you to submit supporting documentation and, in most cases, attend an interview.
If your rejection involves a criminal record flag, prior immigration violation, or is unexplained, consult a qualified immigration lawyer before reapplying. An incorrect reapplication can make future visa applications more difficult. Many immigration law firms offer initial consultations for reasonable fees.
